Comparing verses from the Quran and the Bible

There are many similar verses between the Qur’an and the Bible. This makes sense because they come from the same source. The Quran describes how holy books should be similar:

The Cattle (Al Anam) 92 : ‘’And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed and confirming what was before it…’’

Originator (Fatır) 31 : ‘’And that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], of the Book is the truth, confirming what was before it. Indeed, Allah, of His servants, is Acquainted and Seeing.’’

Quran verses and Bible passages

Matthew 3: 9: ‘’And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.’’

The Family Of Imran 67: ‘Ibrahim was not a Jew nor a Christian but he was (an) upright (man), a Muslim, and he was not one of the polytheists.’’

Matthew 5-28: ‘’But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.’’

The Light (An- Nur) 30: ‘’Say to the believing men that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts; that is purer for them; surely Allah is Aware of what they do.’’

Matthew 6: 2-3: ‘’Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doet.’’

The Cow (Al Baqarah) 264: ‘’O you who believe! do not make your charity worthless by reproach and injury, like him who spends his property to be seen of men and does not believe in Allah and the last day; so his parable is as the parable of a smooth rock with earth upon it, then a heavy rain falls upon it, so it leaves it bare; they shall not be able to gain anything of what they have earned; and Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.’’

The Cow (Al Baqarah) 271: ‘’If you give alms openly, it is well, and if you hide it and give it to the poor, it is better for you; and this will do away with some of your evil deeds; and Allah is aware of what you do.’’

Matthew 6: 14: ‘’For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.’’

The Food (Al Ma’idah) 45: ‘’And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution. But whoever gives [up his right as] charity, it is an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.’’

Matthew 6: 19-20: ‘’Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.’’

The Cow (Al Baqarah) 197: Hajj is [during] well-known months, so whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein [by entering the state of ihram], there is [to be for him] no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputing during Hajj. And whatever good you do – Allah knows it. And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah . And fear Me, O you of understanding.

The Night Journey (Al Isra) 19: ‘’But whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts the effort due to it while he is a believer – it is those whose effort is ever appreciated [by Allah ].’’

Matthew 19: 24 ‘’And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.’’

The Heights (Al Araf) 40: ‘’Indeed, those who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them – the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus do We recompense the criminals.’’

Matthew 24: 29 ‘’Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.’’

The Covering Up  (At-Takwir) 1-2-3: ‘’When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]. And when the stars fall, dispersing, And when the mountains are removed.’’

Matthew 23: 2-3 ‘’Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.’’

The Cow (Al Baqarah) 44: Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?

Matthew 25: 8-9-10 ‘’And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.’’

The Iron (Al-Hadid) 13: ‘’On the [same] Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, “Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light.” It will be said, “Go back behind you and seek light.” And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is torment.’’

Matthew 25: 29 : ‘’For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.’’

The Stories (Al-Quasas) 84: ‘’Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed – then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.’’

Matthew 25: 32 : ‘’And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats.’’

The Emissaries 11-12-13 (Al-Murselat)And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect); For what Day are these (portents) deferred? For the Day of Sorting out.

Hud 103: ‘’Indeed in that is a sign for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed.’’

John 5: 28-29 : ‘’Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.’’

Qaf 42 : ‘’ The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].’’

Ya-Sin 51: ‘’ And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.’’

The Allies (Al-Ahzap) 63-64: ‘’People ask you concerning the Hour. Say,” Knowledge of it is only with Allah . And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near. Indeed, Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared for them a Blaze.’’

John 5: 30 :‘’By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.’’

Jonah (Yunus) 15: ‘’And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, “Bring us a Qur’an other than this or change it.” Say, [O Muhammad], “It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day.’’

John 6: 27 : ‘’Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you…’’

The Bee (An-Nahl) 96: ‘’What you have runs out, but what is with Allah remains. We will reward those who are patient according to the best of their deeds.’’

John 6: 28-29 : ‘’Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”  Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.’’

The Family Of Imran 31: ‘’Say, “If you love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you, and will forgive you your sins.” Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.’’

John 6: 47 : ‘’Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.’’

The Repentance (At Tawbah) 89: ‘’Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great victory.’’

John 12: 44 :‘’Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.’’

The Woman (An-Nisa) 80: ‘’He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah ; but those who turn away – We have not sent you over them as a guardian.’’

Luke 8: 52-53-54-55 :‘’Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.” They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.’’

The Family Of Imran 49 : ‘’And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah . And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.’’

Luke 12: 2 :‘’There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.’’

Ibrahim 38: “Our Lord, You know what we conceal and what we reveal. And nothing is hidden from Allah, on earth or in the heaven.”

Luke 12: 4-5: I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

The Table (Al Ma’idah) 44: ‘’We have revealed the Torah, wherein is guidance and light. The submissive prophets ruled the Jews according to it, so did the rabbis and the scholars, as they were required to protect Allah’s Book, and were witnesses to it. So do not fear people, but fear me. And do not sell My revelations for a cheap price. Those who do not rule according to what Allah revealed are the unbelievers.’’

Luke 12: 15 ‘’Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’’

The Poets (As-Shu’ara) 88: ‘’The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children’’

The Spoils of War (Al-Enfal) ‘’And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a great reward.’’

Matthew 4: 18-23 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

The Cow (Al Baqarah) 261: ‘’The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.’’

The Pilgrimage  (Al Haj) 11: ‘’And among the people is he who worships Allah on edge. When something good comes his way, he is content with it. But when an ordeal strikes him, he makes a turnaround. He loses this world and the next. That is the obvious loss.’’
