WhatsApp will stop working on these devices
WhatsApp, the most used messaging application in the world, is constantly updated. And one more year he has just published his usual “black list” of cell phones that will not be available from next January 1.
The company, which has more than 1,500 million users, already indicated in the past that it prefers to focus on “the mobile phone platforms used by the vast majority of people”.
This decision by Whatsapp can cause many phone models to lose their value completely.
That’s why the instant messaging service said that those who use it with the Nokia S40 operating system will only be able to do so until December 31, 2018, according to the company’s blog.
S40 is a software that was developed by the Finnish company Nokia in 1999 and that, according to the company, came to be used “in hundreds of millions” of cell phones of the company, which reached the figure of 1,500 phones sold with that software in 2012 .
Some of them are Nokia 206 and 208, Nokia 301, Nokia 515 and much of the Nokia Asha C3, X2 and X3 range. These devices are still sold as an alternative to smartphones in several stores and web pages.
The case of the iPhone 4
WhatsApp has also advanced some changes that will affect those who have an emblematic Apple cell phone: the iPhone 4. And although it is still compatible with that terminal, it will soon cease to be.
The app no longer allows users to create new accounts that have that iPhone model or any other phone that works with iOS 7 or another previous version of Apple software.
And from 2020, WhatsApp will stop working completely on those phones.
“WhatsApp for iPhone requires [an operating system] iOS 8 or later.” In iOS 7.1.2, you can no longer create new accounts or verify existing accounts If WhatsApp is already active on your device, you can use it until February 1, 2020 . IOS 6 or earlier are no longer compatible, “reads the company’s website.
“For a better experience, we recommend using the latest version of iOS available on your phone, visit Apple’s help page to learn how to update your iPhone software.”
The case of cell phones that use an Android 2.3.7 operating system (and previous versions) is very similar to those of iOS 7.1.2: they can use WhatsApp only until February 1, 2020.
According to data from Google, there are some 6,000 million cell phones in the world that use Android 2.3.7 or an earlier version of the operating system.
Also known as Gingerbread, the Android 2.3.7 was released in December 2010 along with the Nexus S, a smartphone manufactured by Samsung. His successor, Android 3.0 Honeycomb (honeycomb) was released in February 2011.
If you want to continue using WhatsApp, you will need to update your operating system .
